Interesting. I just posted on the power of the status-quo on the voter. It is a routine both in process and in what we select...and yet at times many seem to want real change.

Amazing. Even the mighty GIMP is portable. Thanks for passing this along (I've updated the list).

By the way, I recently stumbled across this helpful video tutorial series for GIMP newbies. It's called "Meet the GIMP."

Thanks for an interesting article about happiness vs. pleasure. Unfortunately, people in today's world are too often obsessed with what will give them pleasure for the moment. And looking at TV, magazines, and newspapers, it's all about what new things will bring us pleasure if we buy them or obtain them. So, our "I want" valves get turned on. But true happiness is only going to come within--and, if one is a Christian like me, that's from the eternal rather than the transient! I'll look forward to reading more of your blogs in the future.

Say that does look handy. I'm personally not bothered by using an installer for portable apps (though I do prefer 'self-contained exe' style apps). But here's a link for those interested in checking it out.

Hi! Discovered u'r site through the comment you posted @ gizmo...great list! I also have several ones you mentioned here....this being said, here is my input: you talk about Portable versions, some you say Yes, but need to install first. This means that you simply take the whole program folder and put it, let's say, on a USB Key. The down side of it is the changes made to your system...so what I want to share with you is a program called UniExtract, its job is to extract all files from a setup package (when it can) so you simply run the exe. Check it out!! All Portable Apps Fans should know about this tool!! That's it!!

We all have different ways of coping. Some, as Mallory pointed out, let it consume them to the point where they're just feeding the cycle. Others try to mask it by convincing themselves that society isn't all THAT unhealthy - but deep down they know it is. For the rest of us we have more of a challenge; we try to see things for what they are and then respond by either sinking into depression, or making a daily (sometimes moment by moment) choice not to let it drown us. It's not easy to do, it's tough, but at least it instills a sense of hope...in ourselves and for others.

About a month or two ago I lost my temper with a customer service person over the phone. She was terse with me and I responded in kind. It didn't make me feel any better. In fact, I felt so bad about it I called the number back to apologize. Without a doubt we both came away from that feeling much better. It was like a freshening reminder that we really can, amidst this age of cynicism, find a way to treat one another with genuineness and common decency. And we could really use more common decency (at least around where I live).

Wow, great post. I found this by searching randomly about cynicism. I, unfortunately, lost my cool today with a customer service rep at a car dealership due to my underlying cynicism...

I have found that people who seem to be eternally positive and loving are, in some cases, incredibly sad and cynical inside and just keeping it to themselves. I am not sure which is healthier. Expression or repression.

Gosh you're welcome. It is a difficult position to take some days...especially if one spends any time on the roads and freeways, where the dark side of human nature really seems to show itself. It's so hard not to respond in kind to such blatant rudeness. But I believe with all my heart that, even if I never see the impact, choosing not to get sucked into the fray will have some small positive effect on those around me. And that in itself makes me feel better. It doesn't make it easy, but just the thought that others out there are going out of their way to do the same...is at least something to help keep me going especially on tough days.

Thanks for letting me know I'm not alone in this.

I'm affraid that in the last recent months I've become cynical towards humanity. It IS tough not to be cynical when you pay attention to the details. Like the way we treat each other, and also how we treat the Earth that we depend on to survive. But after reading this article I feel empowered to try and not let the cynicism dictate my behaviour towards others anymore. I never even realized that I was adding to the misery by thinking this way. I thought it was others who needed to change, but I realize now that it's from within myself that needs to change. I need to accept the situation and not let it drag me down. From now on I will make a concsious effort to give others the benefit of the doubt.

Thank you for helping me realize I have a choice in the matter.

Well I'm not sure how much I helped but you're welcome. Just glad you got it worked out. I've always thought it would've been nice had they included a little 'Delete this quest' button right there in the journal. Of course, repairing broken quests that you want is another matter.

Hey

Thanks for your help, I checked out the forums and found some solutions to other problems i had!!

The command was : AddTopic "topic"

If a newer plugin has the same new topics as your plugin, the newer plugin will "overwrite" your plugin, and the topic in your plugin will never be highlighted and never show up ingame.

I.e. say that you are going to use the topic "together".

Dialog line: "We really should stick together"

Resultbox: AddTopic "together"

This solved my "errand" problem.

Again thanks a bunch!! ^^

Hey Max. Have you visited the forums yet? Your
situation sounds vaguely familiar and I may have a solution for it in my Morrowind Configuration Guide. Visit the Morrowind Stuff folder to the right and it's a few posts down. In that guide there's a section toward the end called 'Deleting Unwanted Quests' that may be of some assistance. Whether the console command you're looking for is there I can't be sure.

What I am sure of is that the experts over at the official Bethesda forums can probably help you get this sorted out. Mods really add a lot to the game but almost always involve working through these little glitches. Some are quick and easy. Others require a little more work.

Hi

I've been playing Morrowind for years now and i have had almost no problems.

Recently i have been downloading mods and adding to this great game. Here the problem comes in. Some topics during conversation become "gray", meaning the topic cant be clicked on. For example, when I want to complete Caius's quest where I need Info from The Orc in The mages guild In Balmora, i can't select the "errand" command, and can't in effect complete the quest.

I did find a command that can force the topic to become available, but lost it, and can't find the website again.
I NEED THAT COMMAND!!
ANY HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED!!

Thanx a BUNCH

It is very difficult to define I agree. I would say retro gaming is a style. Emulation of Older games, remakes or new games in an old style.

I recently downloaded Mega Man 9 and I'm loving it. Even though it's a brand new game, it brings me back to the hours I spent playing Mega Man on my B&W Gameboy. New Super Mario Bros. wasn't nearly as old style as MM9, but it still brought me back to SMB 3 and SMW in a sense.
